Helping Islington Council Meet Compliance Targets
Since 2015 Islington Council have been using a range of products to meet their health and safety compliance targets for 1,500 of their employees. This covered DSE, fire safety, health and safety, driving and stress.
We Wanted More Than a Tick Box Exercise
We spoke to Donna Lewis, Islington Council’s Corporate Health and Safety Manager, on why she decided to go with Cardinus’ suite of health and safety tools, including Workstation Safety Plus.
For Donna it was the simplicity of the programs that caught her eye. She remarks “obviously … we need to consider costs, but we also wanted a system which was easy to use, suitable for differing abilities and would be interesting.” Beyond that, it’s about the courses themselves and their impact. For her it was “important that the e-courses were not just a tick in the box exercise”, but actually provided practical information that could be utilised in the place of work.
The risk assessment module on the workstation safety is excellent and has reduced the amount of DSE assessments carried out by our health and safety advisers as staff are able to implement changes themselves.
On the Installation: “The support we received was excellent”
We try and give our customers the support they need to get our systems working for every one of their employees, and our customer service team is always on hand to help smooth out any bumps in the process.
Speaking about the support she received, Donna says “We had a point of contact who was able to support us through the process, answer our questions and come into the office to work through the implementation.”
The Results Speak for Themselves
Islington Council have been able to increase the amount of staff trained in health and safety, which has “significantly improved” the induction of staff and reduced both sickness due to musculoskeletal problems and the work of advisors having to carry out stage 2 DSE assessments.
She goes on to say that the “risk assessment module is excellent” and has been a massive help in reducing the reliance on health and safety advisors. And there’s more: “The ability to provide training to a large number of staff without managers losing resources is brilliant!”
