A series of videos shot at the recent Cardinus forum on managing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are now available to watch on the Cardinus YouTube channel.
In an engaging four-part video presentation, Nigel Heaton, director at Human Applications, explores how organisations can put in place effective health and safety management systems to manage MSDs. Nigel provides useful advice on what the courts look for in the event of a civil claim and how organisations can prevent injury to their employees. He also runs through the documentation that organisations should keep to record management of MSDs. By the end of the series, viewers will have a clear idea of what good at-work MSD management looks like.
The benefits of using an in-house physiotherapist are revealed in a compelling video case study featuring Jonathan Daniel MCSP HCPC, physiotherapist at FitBack Physiotherapy. Jonathan explains how his organisation helped a food production company speed up the recovery rate for musculoskeletal disorder absences.
Before the trial period the average time off work for each MSD case was 7.2 weeks, which is a lot higher than the figures quoted by the HSE. A year later, after the trial, the average MSD incident absence was just 2.94 weeks, less than half the recovery time recorded before the trial.
